NEW DELHI: Markets extended their losses in early trade on Thursday on the back of losses in index majors amid weak indications of global markets.
The BSE Sensex was down 149.47 points, or 0.37 per cent, at 40,557.84, while the NSE Nifty was down 44.70 points, or 0.37 per cent, at 11,892.95.
ICICI Bank, Asian Paint, Power Grid, Nestle, Sun Pharma, Bajaj Auto, NTPC, Maruti, RIL, Titan, Tata Steel and SBI fell 1.45 per cent.
On the other hand, Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Finance, Tech Mahindra, Infosys, LT, Axis Bank, HCL Tech, Bharti Airtel, TCS, ONGC, M And M, up 2.18 percent.
In the previous session, the Sensex was up 162.94 points, or 0.40 per cent, at 40,707.31, while the broader NSE Nifty was up 40.85 points, or 0.34 per cent, at 11,937.65.
Foreign institutional investors bought shares worth Rs 2,108.48 crore on a net basis on Wednesday, according to transaction data.
Outside Japan, MSCI’s broad-based Asia-Pacific stock index fell 0.63%. Australian stocks fell 0.6%, Seoul Cosby 0.59% and Chinese blue chips 1.1%. The Nikkei was down 0.69%.
