NEW DELHI: Markets rose on Friday on gains in auto, metal and electrical stocks amid positive sentiment in global markets.
The BSE Sensex was up 127.01 points, or 0.31 per cent, at 40,685.50, while the broader NSE Nifty was up 33.90 points, or 0.28 per cent, at 11,930.35.
The top gainers in the Sensex were Maruti Suzuki, M&M, Tata Steel, Power Grid, Bajaj Auto, NTPC, ITC, Tech Mahindra, Titan, Asia Paint, ICICI Bank and HDFC.
On the other hand, Ultratech Cement, HCL Tech, HUL, Bajaj Pinserv, Infosys, Axis Bank, Nestle, SBI, Sun Pharma, and IndusInd Bank were lagging behind at 2.36 per cent.
Meanwhile, the rupee depreciated by 7 paise to 73.61 against the US dollar.
International oil benchmark Brent crude rose 0.38 percent to $ 42.62 a barrel.
