In the thirteenth edition of the Indian Premier League in Dubai, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) kept their play-off hopes alive by scoring 12 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in match 42.
Punjab had a resounding victory over Warner’s ‘Orange Army’, which at one time seemed like a losing streak, while KXIP batsman Mandeep Singh stole the hearts of many when he returned to the game despite a huge personal loss.
Mandeep’s father passed away on Friday night, but that did not diminish his determination to play his right against SRH. His father Hardev Singh fell ill and his health deteriorated last week.
Kings XI Punjab players wore black armor during the game to pay homage to Mandeep’s late father. Led by KL Rahul, KXIP12 dedicated all the important victories to the memory of Mandeep’s late father.
Mandeep opened the innings for his team in the absence of regular opener Mayang Agarwal, who was ruled out due to injury. In his concise but meaningful manner, Mandeep hit 17 off 14 balls and added 37 for the first wicket with KL Rahul (27).
KXIP scored 126 runs in total, but KL Rahul & Co. It was enough to win by 12 runs as their bowlers controlled SRH to 114.
With the fifth win of the season, KXIP has now advanced to fifth place and has a realistic chance of including it in the knockouts. They slipped two points from fourth-placed KKR with 12 points in the bank.
