The round-robin devices in the thirteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) are coming to an end and the race for all the important play-off qualifications is on the edge.
With 11 league games played for each of the eight teams on the field and dusted off, there are three teams that will be pre-runners in the first half of the IPL 2020 points table to book a spot in the knockout stages. Sneak into the playoffs one last time
With just a week to go before the end of the round-robin stage of the tournament, with only 3 games left for most teams, the picture is still sluggish, with four teams likely to make the cuts to the play-offs in the end.
When you look at how the points table unfolds after the match 45 between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals, it gives you a picture of who the betting leaders are, who are still betting and whose campaign is over. IPL
Leaders of the pack – MI, DC and RCP
Defending champions Mumbai Indians are polarized with 14 points, but are leading by one whistle in the points table. Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore also have seven wins in eleven league missions, but the table toppers are second and third respectively due to a slightly lower run rate for MI.
With three games left in the bank, MI, DC and RCB have a bright chance of qualifying for the playoffs. A solo win in one of the remaining three games would give them 16 points (8 wins) in the league campaign and definitely a shot spot in the knockouts.
Challengers – Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab
Kolkata Knight Riders
With 12 points in fourth place in the points table, Kolkata Knight Riders leaders MI, DC and RCB breathe right into the neck, with only two points left .The Purple Brigade can win within the top 3 places Kings XI Punjab later in the evening.
KKR also had a realistic chance of making the play-offs with 2 wins in the remaining 3 meetings. They also believe that KXIP and SRH will lose at least 2 of the remaining three games.
Kings XI Punjab
KXIP has repeated a fairy tale in the league platform respectable business end. With 10 points, fifth-placed Kings XI Punjab will then face Sharjah later in the evening against KKR, winning at least 2 of the remaining three matches, and KKR and SRH. At least 2 of the remaining three games.
IPL 2020 points table
On the verge of elimination
Losing 3-4 close games has certainly affected the chances of getting a place in the SRH knockouts, but it is not over yet with any fantasy. SRH, ranked seventh in the points table, must win all of the remaining matches aimed at qualifying for the play-offs. KKR, KXIP and RR need to lose at least 2 of their last three games.
The Rajasthan Royals escaped defeat in the play-offs with an 8-wicket victory over defending champions Mumbai Indians. However, with a respectable five wins of 10 points in 12 games, the Smith-led Pink Army should win the remaining two encounters and hope that KXIP, KKR and SRH will lose the remaining games by a huge margin.
Outside the playoff race
Chennai Super Kings
For the three-time champions Chennai Super Kings it was all over because even three wins and multiple encounters would not get them to the knockouts. Despite beating RCB by 8 wickets in the last league clash, when Rajasthan Royals beat Mumbai Indians by 8 wickets, CSK’s hopes of miraculously entering the knockouts were dashed.
