Ben Stokes unbeaten century (107 *) Rajasthan Royals (RR) 195 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.
The RR medical win against defending champions Mumbai Indians kept them afloat and advanced to sixth place in the points table.
The player who won the game award for transforming his game, the English all-rounder had mixed emotions because he helped the Smith-led team pull off a stellar victory, but felt the knock had arrived. Slightly delayed in the big context of competition.
“Deploy Bittersweet to be honest – it took so long for the team to get one. I would have liked this form two or three games before when we could not believe the other results to get the qualifiers,” Stokes said at the post-match presentation, in which he was announced as the tournament’s player.
“It’s always fun to get back in shape. From today we need a decision, so – it’s a good win.”
Stokes dedicated his match-winning tones to his father Gerard, who did not have the best health in New Zealand. Stokes’ father is battling cancer.
Speaking to the match host after the match at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Stokes said, “Things are a little tough now, but I hope it brings a little joy to the home.”
“After we reached the end I was able to board the plane with the love and blessings of my parents. I want to get back to playing as a family without external influences.”
After spending five weeks with his family in New Zealand, somewhere in the middle of nowhere R.R. Stokes, who joined the team, led his team with 107 off 60 balls. After reaching the 3-point milestone, the 29-year-old raised the hood to dedicate to his ailing father Garrett.
Before arriving in the United Arab Emirates for IPL 2020, the prime English all-rounder left England’s home Test series against Pakistan in August to travel to New Zealand to stay with his ailing father, who is suffering from brain cancer.
Stokes returned his form with Willow after scoring 30, 19, 15, 41, and 5 points in the IPL. He said he had received his best training on Saturday since arriving in the United Arab Emirates and had taken that confidence into the competition.
“Yesterday’s training was the best of the whole time I’ve been here.
