NEW DELHI: Markets ended deeper in the negative zone on Monday due to losses in banking and financial stocks.
The BSE Sensex was down 540.00 points, or 1.33 per cent, at 40,145.50, while the NSE Nifty was down 162.60 points, or 1.36 per cent, at 11,767.75.
Bajaj Auto, M&M, RIL, Tata Steel, Tech Mahindra, SBI, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Bajaj Finserv, Sun Pharma, HDFC Bank and Asian Paint fell 6.10 per cent. On the other hand, Nestle, Kotak Bank, IndusInd Bank, Power Grid, HUL, LT, HDFC and TCS gained as much as 2.48 per cent.
Foreign institutional investors bought shares worth Rs 906.93 crore on a net basis on Friday, according to transaction data.
Earlier in the day, the BSE Sensex was up 127.01 points, or 0.31 per cent, at 40,685.50, while the broader NSE Nifty was up 33.90 points, or 0.28 per cent, at 11,930.35.
