Former Kings XI Punjab opener Gautam Gambhir has been criticized for not winning the last five matches of the Kings XI Punjab team.
Gambier was not ashamed to place it on KXIP all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, who completely failed to justify his high price.
“You don’t have him. 3, you haven’t tried him. 4. It may be the best bowling line-up to see Maxwell ‘s best. But he clearly struggled this season,” said the former ESPNCricinfo cricketer.
He added that the Kings XI were not the best alternative to Maxwell because they had spent a lot of money on the Australians. Kings XI have bought Maxwell for Rs 10.5 crore – one of the most expensive acquisitions in the competition.
“Who do you replace with Glenn Maxwell? Did you spend so much money on him?” Gambier asked.
The 39-year-old also questioned the Kings XI management, saying there would have been no other right with such a player who gave nothing in return.
“I don’t think he would have been given so long if he had had any other rights. But Kings XI is stuck with him,” he said.
Maxwell has been bad on both the bat and the ball so far. He failed to deliver the much-needed big wins in the death overs, is rusty in the middle, while leaking a lot of runs with the ball.
“It’s one of the worst seasons he’s had as a player. It’s a big time for Kings XI,” Gambier concluded.
