Sachin Tendulkar says he was inspired by Varun Chakraborty’s performance in IPL 2020

Mumbai: Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has lauded Varun Chakraborty, who received his first India call-up for the T20 Internationals against Australia on Monday (October 26). The batting maestro said he was impressed by the variations of the mysterious spinner and the quiet head during the ongoing IPL match in the United Arab Emirates.

“Varun has bowled well throughout this match (IPL) and has rarely given a few more runs at this level,” Sachin said in a video shared on 100MB.

“… what’s going on is everyone is watching how Sunil Narine throws the ball, so usually when Narine throws the ball, there is more pressure on the bowler from the other end and the batsman tries and hits him more.” According to Tendulkar, the emperor did not falter despite bowling most of the time under stressful conditions.

The 29-year-old emperor and a professional architect has so far taken 12 wickets in 10 IPL matches for the Kolkata Knight Riders, including a five-wicket haul, and has impressed everyone. He has taken the top five of this IPL. In domestic rounds, he plays for Tamil Nadu. His performance in the ongoing IPL 2020 was rewarded and the selectors selected him as the new face in the Indian T20 squad for the tour of Australia.

“Varun is very successful, the variation I see, the confidence I see, he can cover the balls, the googlies,” Tendulkar has numerous records to his name.

“He has been a consistent actor because he has thrown the ball in many performance situations and he did not make a fuss in those situations because he was very consistent and confident,” the cricket icon said.

According to Tendulkar, if a bowler has confidence and clarity in his skills in mind, he wins 30-40 per cent of the battle. “When you run-up, if you are confident and determined in what you want to run there are many things on your mind, and then the bowler’s challenge is a little less.” Of course the ball has to be thrown from the folds, but your body follows what your mind thinks, ”said Tendulkar.
