Defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) became the first team to officially qualify for the IPL 2020 playoffs after beating Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 49th match of Season 13 in Dubai on Thursday (Oct. 29).
The thirteenth season of the IPL has finally qualified the first playoffs for the Mumbai Indians after 49 rounds of 40 days of intense competition between eight teams in the Marquee T20 League.
A win for MI in one of the remaining two matches would ensure a better result for them at the height of the league stage of the tournament.
Mumbai, who top the IPL 2020 points table, have won eight of their comfortable twelve matches. Since they are the only team in the bank with 16 points, they also have a healthy net run rate of +1.186.

KKR’s loss to CSK they lasted for 12 consecutive points and will now require a huge win in the remaining matches to qualify for the knockouts. KKR also believes that RCB, KXIP and SRH will fail to win the remaining games.
The Chennai Super Kings, already out of the playoffs, recorded their fifth win of the season against the Kolkata Knight Riders and added two more points to their kitty.
With 14 points each, second-placed Royal Challengers Bangalore and third-placed Delhi are also a successful way out of the knockout stages of IPL season 13.
A win in one of the remaining two matches for DC and RCB would see them qualify relatively easily for the next round, but a defeat would mean losing the playoff spot by a whisker. Delhi capitals will end up in the first two places if they win both the matches.
Fourth-placed Kings XI Punjab have a strong chance to lift the play-off berth when they face Rajasthan Royals in the evening. With 12 points in their bank, winning the RR would take them to 14 points.
Punjab should win the final league match against CSK, which will be in the playoffs for the first time since 2014. Even a defeat can be costly for their play-off luck.
