NEW DELHI: Markets tracking losses in index majors ended in negative territory on Thursday amid the expiration of October derivative contracts.
The BSE Sensex was down 172.61 points, or 0.43 per cent, at 39,749.85. Similarly, the broader NSE Nifty was down 58.80 points, or 0.50 per cent, at 11,670.80.
LT, Titan, ONGC, Axis Bank, HUL, NTPC, M&M, HDFC, Nestle, HDF .C Bank, Sun Pharma and ITC suffered huge losses in the Sensex. On the other hand, Asian Paint, Ultrasheme, HCL Tech, Kotak Bank, ICICI Bank, RIL, TCS, Tech Mahindra and Bajaj Fund rose 2.79 per cent. .
Troops in Hong Kong, Seoul and Tokyo ended in negative territory, while Shanghai was in positive territory. Shares traded heavily in Europe in early deals.
Meanwhile, international crude crude Brent crude fell 3.15 percent to $ 38.39 a barrel.
The rupee, meanwhile, continued its downward trajectory, falling 23 paise to 74.10 against the US dollar.
In the previous session, the Sensex was down 599.64 points, or 1.48 per cent, at 39,922.46, while the Nifty was down 159.80 points, or 1.34 per cent, at 11,729.60.
Foreign institutional investors sold shares worth Rs 1,130.98 crore on a net basis on Wednesday, according to exchange data.
