Internet Protocol Address (IP Address) Devices connected to the network (Internet) such as Computers, Tablets, and Smartphones would have a unique address. Every network device in the world such as computers and mobiles that are connected to the Internet, all have their own different IP. The IP addresses used for the Internet today are available in 2 versions, IPv4 and IPv6.

What is IPv4 – What is IPv4?

IPv4 was the first version of IP. It was first used by ARPANET in 1983. Today IPv4 is the most widely used IP version. It is used to identify the devices on the network using the addressing system.

IPv4 is 32-bit. An IP address can be provided to more than 4 billion network devices with IP version 4. IP version 4 is still considered the primary Internet protocol and this version is used on approximately 94% of connected devices on the Internet.

What is IPv6 – What is IPv6?

All the devices that are connected to the Internet have a unique IP address and in today’s time almost all people use the Internet and in the coming time, its number will increase which means that billions of IP addresses will be required for the Internet and As we know that from P Version 4 only up to 4 billion network devices can be given an IP address. IPv6 has been developed to meet this shortcoming.

It is the most recent version of (IP) Internet Protocol. It was started in early 1994 by the Internet Engineers Taskforce. This new IP version is being deployed to meet the need for more Internet IP addresses. Its purpose was to make up for the shortcomings that IPv4 had.

IPv6 is 128 bits and it can provide Unique IP Address to about 340 Undecillion Network Devices. IPv6 is also called the next generation of IP (Internet Protocol).

Types of IP addresses

IP Address is divided into several parts such as Private IP Addresses, Public IP Addresses, Static IP Addresses, and Dynamic IP Addresses. Let us know the details about these different types of IP Addresses one by one:

Private IP Address

A private IP adder is an IP address that is reserved for internal use behind a router or other Network Address Translation (NAT) device. Private IP Adders are the opposite of Public IP Adders. A private IP address is an address allocated by InterNIC that allows organizations to create their own private network. There are three types of IP classes you can use to create a private network in organizations Class A, Class B, and Class C. Private IP address is also known as a local IP address.

Public IP address

A public IP address is an address assigned to a computing device to allow direct access to the Internet. A public IP address is assigned on a web server, email server so that people can access it directly from the public network. A public IP address is globally unique, and can only be assigned to a unique device.

Static IP address

A static IP address is manually configured on a device, it is called static IP because it does not change. This is the exact opposite of a Dynamic IP address

Dynamic IP address

A dynamic IP address is assigned automatically to your smartphone, desktop PC, or wireless tablet and every connected device on the network. The automatic assignment of IP address is done by DHCP Server. The IP assigned by the DHCP server in the network is temporary, so it is called a dynamic IP address.
