Insurance claims for heart diseases drop by 63%

Heart disease is the most cautious among health-conscious people, but in the last two years, insurance claims for heart-related diseases have dropped by 63%. This information has been received from the data of general insurance company ICICI Lombard General Insurance. In the year 2019-20, the cases of heart disease insurance claims stood at 7360, whereas till August this year only 2700 cases have been reported. If we talk about insurance claims for heart diseases on the basis of gender, then there has been a decline of more than 63% in the case of women’s claims. In the case of men, this figure stands at 62%. ICICI Lombard recently did a survey in this regard.


It was found that 87% of women suffering from heart diseases get their regular health checkup done while the number of men who do so is only 74%. In September 2021, ICICI Lombard General Insurance conducted this survey on about 1500 people across the country. According to data from ICICI Lombard General Insurance, Kolkata has the highest reduction in heart disease insurance claims. Here there has been a reduction of 75% in the case of insurance claims. In Chennai, this figure has been 71.6 percent while in Pune there has been a decrease of 70.6 percent. As far as surgery is concerned, the cases of elective surgery have dropped by 50.5% and the cases of non-elective surgery by 64.3 percent during the coronavirus crisis.


Although the number of heart disease insurance claims is decreasing, since the Corona crisis, 68% of people have bought insurance for heart disease. 15% of those surveyed are considering increasing the amount of heart insurance. Of those surveyed, 69% of women and 43% of men have suffered from heart-related ailments in the past two years. During the Corona crisis, two-thirds of the people surveyed have been affected in some way or the other by problems related to the heart.

It has been found in this survey that two thirds of the respondents have started paying more attention to health. He eats healthy food and exercises regularly to stay fit. 86 percent of the people surveyed believe that health insurance has become necessary now. One out of every three people surveyed believes that health insurance has become more important than before after the Corona crisis.
